Here is a list of commonly asked questions and answers for them. If you have a question or issue that is not covered here please email me using the address shown above.
I've installed the latest version of MapSource (6.14.x.x) and/or Garmin's new Training Center software. When I start the application I get an error that there is a problem with one of the maps. What is the problem?
There was a configuration error with the maps that caused this problem. All of the maps have been updated and are now compatible with the latest version of MapSource (Training Center). Most maps have an update file available to fix the issue - it isn't necessary to download the entire installation.
I've installed a state mapset but when I start MapSource and select the state in the Product list all I see are squares. Where is the map?
Initial releases of the state mapsets did not contain overview maps for use within MapSource. With these mapsets (currently WY) you need to zoom the map scale into at least 30 miles (at medium detail) to see the map data. As you continue to zoom in more and more detail will be displayed. Recent releases (currently CO, MT and UT) contain an overview and will have data visible at all zoom levels. As the older state mapsets are updated an overview map will be added.
I have multiple states loaded into my GPS unit but when trying to switch maps from within the Show/Hide mapset menu some states are not listed. What is the problem?
There is a known issue where earlier releases of the state mapsets overlapped one another. This overlapping seems to be causing the menu issues described above. Future releases of the state mapsets will remove this overlapping and hopefully resolve the issue.
There was also an issue within MapSoure where the mapset name on some occasions would not be displayed correctly on the GPS unit. This might be contributing to some of the issues being seen. Garmin has corrected the issue in the 6.13.7 release of MapSource.
I've installed a state mapset and there seems to be a section along the border missing. Where's the rest of the map?
To address the overlapping map issue (see above) newer releases of the state mapsets will have the maps "cut" along 100K quads (or sometimes half quads). This will occasionally cause a section of map to be "missing" from a state mapset. The "missing" section will be part of the neighboring states mapset. Although not an ideal solution it balances out the need to address the overlapping issue while not increasing the effort needed to produce the maps.
